A Level Physical Education

Summary

You are interested in sport and physical activity across a wide range of areas; and you enjoy learning scientific theory, taking part in debate, and some physical participation. Students often progress to a variety of sport, PE and health related degrees.
You will study the effects of leading a healthy and active lifestyle. You will also study skill acquisition and exercise physiology.
There is a small amount of coursework, which includes both practical and verbal or written sections. You are expected to demonstrate application of your theoretical knowledge for effective performance. Later on you?ll study applied physiological, psychological and contemporary aspects and optimising performance in a competitive situation. You will also gain an understanding of the role of technology in sport. You will perform practically, coach, observe, analyse and apply your knowledge to optimise performance.
You will undertake a variety of learning activities during lessons, including group work and individual research. A small proportion of lessons will allow practical performance and skill observation, practical exercise training programmes and fitness measuring.

Entry Requirements

To study PE at this level, you need to have gained a grade C or better in GCSE additional science or individual sciences, in addition to the general entry requirements.
