Love Barrow Awards finalists revealed
After sifting through piles of nominations the three finalists in the eight categories for the Love Barrow Awards have been published. The winners will be announced at a glitzy ceremony at The Forum on March 9.
We are delighted that out of all the nominations two are from Furness College.
In the Carer category, art student Jerusha Phifer has been chosen as she is a teenager who devotes “the majority of her spare time” to looking after her disabled younger brother Jaimea. The Furness College student, one-of-five children, took it upon herself to become an additional carer to her brother, helping her parents, who work full-time. Tracy Livingston, one of two people who nominated Jerusha, of Priors Path, Barrow, said: “Jerusha never moans or complains and cares simply because it’s her brother and she loves him.”
In the Teacher category, ICT Tutor and Enterprise Hub Co-ordinator, Jonny Williams has been chosen. He was described as a “passionate and inspiring” tutor of creative media and ICT at Furness College. He was instrumental in setting up radio station Cando FM at the college and encourages primary and secondary schools to get involved with it. College director Jane Ridyard nominated Mr Williams and said: “He’s been nominated for his enthusiasm, dedication and passion for teaching, and the way he is able to inspire all levels of young people and staff.”
We wish lots of success to both Jonny and Jerusha and look forward to seeing if they are successful on the night.
