Art exhibition shows creative excellence

Talented students from BTEC Diploma in Art and Design at Furness College have come together to exhibit their work in the college’s annual exhibition.

The exhibition shows art and design from a range of different media including photography, painting, print, 3D work, mix-media, Film, Animation and graphics. The courses exhibiting are the full-time BTEC National Diploma students.

Mike Walsh, a lecture of Art & Design and the Art Team are really happy with the work that the second years have produced this year. It’s great to see so much variety in the students work, we have students that are very strong at “traditional” art and design and we have students who excel in new media and digital design, there is something for everyone to enjoy. It’s always exciting to see the final exhibition of a two year course come together, completing what has been a very successful course for the students involved. This year the students have had great success with university applications and many of them have gained places to do degrees in Game Design, Fine Art, Interactive Media and New Media. Our course is very popular with creative young people, we offer an environment where they have the chance to explore their ideas and interests to peruse their goals, whether it’s university or in a career.

Lyndsey Culbert, 19, from Barrow said, “I’ve really enjoyed the course as I’ve had loads of opportunities to get the experience of real life jobs. The wide range of commercial work we have been involved in over the last two years has made the working world very relevant. I have a conditional place at Blackpool and Fylde to study Graphic Design for this September.”

Grant Schwer, 18, also from Barrow said,“The course has been great I love everything about it, the freedom, the good relationship you have with the tutors and the independent way of working. I have a conditional place for Northumbria University to study Interactive New Media and Design.”
