VTCT Level 3 Enhance and maintain nails using liquid and powder

Summary

This unit is about providing services to enhance, maintain, repair and remove nails on the hands, using liquid and powder. It covers consulting with the client to establish their requirements and recognising any contra-indications that may affect the service. It also covers preparing and applying nail enhancements to cosmetically improve or camouflage nails using sculpting techniques, tip application and coloured powders. The ability to tailor the service and aftercare advice to suit individual client needs is also required.

What are the entry requirements?

A minimum of a Level 2 in Nail Services or equivalent qualifications is required before progressing to Level 3 Enhance and maintain nails using UV gel. You will be required to attend an interview.

What subjects will I study?

You will study a range of topics including;

• sculpting using pink and white gel
• Application of coloured L&P enhancements
• maintenance and rebalance and reposition of white product (French finish)
• a nail biter using tips with French opaque overlays
• removal of nail enhancements

How will I learn?

You will learn by working in a realistic salon environment at your own pace. Before practical work begins you will study the underpinning knowledge required through assignment work and your tutors will demonstrate the skills necessary.

How will I be assessed?

All the practical work is assessed in salon on clients. You will also prove your knowledge of practical work through oral questions. There is one on line tests for this unit. A portfolio of evidence is built up throughout the course.

This is a professional qualification and high standards of personal appearance and conduct will be required. Assessments are carried out in the salon and must be to a professional standard.

How long is the course?

The course is one day a week (4.5 hours) over the academic year. This will include practical work in the college salon as well as theory work. The college salon is run as a commercial salon and is open to the general public.

Are there any additional costs?

There is a dress code of black tunic with red piping trim, black cardigan and black trousers. (The uniform is to be purchased through college). Black flat closed toe shoes must be purchased independently.

All equipment is provided on the course but nail product kits are available to purchase from the college for use at home.

You will be required to purchase a nail tool kit and bring this to each session. The college provides all other equipment needed for the course.
