Summary

The VTCT Level 3 Certificate in Swedish Massage (QCF) is a substantial vocational qualification that will prepare you for a career as a Swedish massage therapist. This qualification is designed for learners aged 16 years or over and will support you to gain employment as a Swedish massage therapist as the units contained in this qualification cover all the skills and knowledge required for this role.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements, however knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology would be an advantage. A good basic education is required. A caring approach and good communication skills are an asset. An interest in the subject is essential.

What subjects will I study?

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a beauty massage therapist including, units covering the following: providing body massage, health and safety, anatomy and physiology and client care.

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and client care. You will develop a range of technical skills enabling you to provide relaxing massage treatments using classical Swedish massage movements. You will also develop interpersonal skills that will assist you to communicate effectively with clients.

How will I learn?

You will learn through a mix of directed learning, on line activities and practical workshops.

How will I be assessed?

All the practical work is assessed in the salon on paying clients; practical work and oral questions prove knowledge. Theory will cover anatomy and physiology and health and safety. Two online exams and a portfolio of evidence will be built up through the course.

Home study and practice will be required.

What opportunities will this lead to?

This qualification will prepare you for employment as a Swedish massage therapist. You will also be eligible to join a professional association and gain insurance as a Swedish massage therapist. Career opportunities as a Swedish massage therapist exist in a variety of contexts, including:

- Working in commercial salons
- Working in a destination and day spas
- Working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

Further study can include other complementary therapies such as Indian Head Massage, Spa Therapy, Aromatherapy, Reflexology or Beauty Therapy.

All students are expected to purchase the college uniform to complete practical assessments.
