Summary

This course is designed for anyone who wants to work with young children.

What are the entry requirements?

Four GCSEs at grades D-G. Grade 4 or less or other equivalent qualification.

Students must have a clear DBS certificate.

What subjects will I study?

Units studied may include:

• Child and young person development
• Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
• Communication and professional relationships with children and young people
• Equality, diversity and inclusion in working with children and young people

The course includes one day per week on work placement.

Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.

How will I learn?

Classroom taught sessions provide the underpinning knowledge of the qualification. This is supported by a Virtual Nursery where students can practice work based skills in a non threatening environment.

Work placement provides students with the opportunity to be part of a real environment, putting their knowledge into practice and further developing skills.

How will I be assessed?

Classroom sessions are assessed using discussions, questioning and tasks.

Work placement is prepared for during classroom activities and assessed by observation by an assigned College Assessor.

What opportunities will this lead to?

Students may be able to progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools, or gain employment in a school setting. Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview.

How long is the course?

Full-time over one year.

Are there any additional costs?

There are no specific extra costs, just stationery for study.
