What are the entry requirements?

We are seeking people who are keen, enthusiastic and with a real interest in working in the Construction industry. Individuals must hold a Level 2 Diploma. Placement on the course is by interview and aptitude/skills test.

A-E in three subjects including maths and English.

What subjects will I study?

The course is available in the following three crafts:

• Trowel Occupations
• Wood Occupations
• Decorative Occupations

All areas also cover Health and Safety, working with others and working platforms.

Every full-time course will include a real experience of work.

Maths and English form part of this course and will be assessed at the relevant levels.

How will I learn?

As a student on this course you will have:

• the opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge required by people wishing to be employed in the construction industry.
• practical training in a craft workshop
• study time for theory work that is organised through workbooks and with taught classroom sessions
• Individual tutorial support

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed continually throughout the year on practical work by observation and building a portfolio of evidence and by synoptic assessment at the end of the year.

Theory work is assessed in Construction by the use of multiple-choice exams throughout the year and at the end of the year. You will also undertake a core assignment which is assessed throughout the year.

What opportunities will this lead to?

A career that will progress as far as you want to take it! The Construction industry is currently desperate for qualified employees and there is a large national skills shortage. Students would normally progress to an Apprenticeship, or employment. Progression is based on aptitude and a successful interview.

How long is the course?

Full-time over one year.

Are there any additional costs?

You will need boots, overalls, stationery and drawing equipment.
