VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Hair and Make-up Studies (QCF)

Summary

This qualification has specifically been designed for the 16-19 age group and builds on existing knowledge and understanding of make-up artistry gained at Level 2, enabling learners to expand the scope of their technical skills to prepare learners for employment as a make-up artist.

The content of this qualification is comprised of all the required elements to work effectively as a make-up artist including airbrush make-up for the face, camouflage make-up, fashion and photographic make-up and media make-up. It also provides a sound platform for further learning.

What are the entry requirements?

A Level 2 Diploma in Hair & Media Make-up.

What subjects will I study?

Units studied include:

• Apply airbrush make-up to the face
• Camouflage make-up
• Media make-up
• Fashion and photographic make-up
• Design face and body art
• Production arts planning
• Style and dress hair using a variety of techniques

How will I learn?

The course has been designed to meet various learning styles and it includes both the theory and the practical aspects. Various learning resources will be used to underpin the knowledge.

How will I be assessed?

You will be observed throughout the course by your tutor whilst practicing the skills learnt in class. All students will have to sit an end of unit exam for each unit to successfully complete the course.

What opportunities will this lead to?

This course provides the skills and techniques for a career as a make-up artist or students who wish to work in television and theatrical productions. A natural progression route would be to university.

Career opportunities as a make-up artists also exist in a variety of contexts, including:

• Beauty Salons
• Independent/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings
• Theatre, film, print media, photographic studios
• National health service
• Product manufacturing and training
• Hospitals/care homes

How long is the course?

Full-time over one year.

Are there any additional costs?

Students are expected to purchase the college Kit and uniform to complete practical assessments. There is a dress code of black tunic with red piping trim, black cardigan and black trousers for £70. (The uniform is to be purchased through college). Black flat closed toe shoes must be purchased independently.
