A Level Computer Science

Summary

In computing Science you will study wide range of topics - the structure and function of the processor- types of processor- input, output and storage- operating systems- application generation - an introduction to programming- databases- computer networks –web technologies- data types- data structures- Boolean algebra- computing related legislation and ethical, moral and cultural issues.
You will learn theory in the first year in preparation for the hands on programming into the second year. In your second year you will learn how to program in a programming language in addition to theory topics. You will work using updated and modern technologies and tools to prepare in both your written and practical assessments.
Students often progress to a computing or technical degree and follow a technical career in the computing industry, business or engineering.

Entry Requirements

To study computer science at this level in addition to the general entry requirements you need to have a grade 5 or better in GCSE mathematics.
