I chose to employ an apprentice in order to create new jobs and new faces at Excel. I chose Furness College for the training in order to keep the training local so it was easy for the apprentice. I also studied at Furness College and it worked for me.

Having an apprentice can be time consuming at times, but on the whole it is good for our business. The clients get to know the apprentice whilst training and they can watch them progress into a stylist.

The support from the assessor and Furness College is very good- they keep me informed on Katie’s progress at all times.

It’s a great idea to take on an apprentice as you can train them in the way which is best for your business.

I liked the idea of learning whilst earning and I knew it would get me used to working in a salon environment.

I chose Furness College because I knew a lot of people who had previously completed the course there and I also heard it had a good reputation. It was also nearby to my home.

I enjoy the fact I am learning new skills whilst earning money at the same time. I also like the fact that it has boosted my confidence about working in a salon environment when I qualify.

My employer has been very welcoming since day one. She has also been very supportive with everything. My assessor is also very supportive and very helpful in lots of situations. She has helped me qualify in a fast time and is always there when I need her.

If you’re looking to do an apprenticeship I’d tell you to “Go for it!” It has helped me in so many ways such as confidence and practical skills. You also have an advantage over full-time students and it is a great way to start your career path. I’m so glad I decided to go for the apprenticeship!
