By employing a business apprentice, you will be taking on someone who will help your business to function successfully, by becoming skilled and confident in a range of administrative practices. The roles covers executive assistants, secretaries, administration assistants, data entry clerks and office juniors and includes activities such as handling the day-to-day tasks in an office in an organised and well managed way.
We decided to employ an apprentice to expand the business. We thought by adding a new member to the working environment it would energise the team and inspire new ideas. It’s also nice to give something back and allow a young person to have the opportunity to work their way up in the company. Based on the positive impact of having an apprentice we are now in the process to recruit again and have a long term commitment to employing more apprentices.
We chose Furness College as it is a local provider with a good reputation. We have also had dealings with them in the past so knew they would deliver. The college also offer additional training/support to apprentices.
Rachel has been an asset to the team since day one. She has excellent people skills and has fitted in really well with the team. She has inspired new ideas and questioned working processes that have since led to improvements. Her position has now become a permanent full-time member of the team and she continues to impress on a weekly basis.
The assessor has been very supportive from the outset. We have a visit on a fortnightly basis which keeps both myself and the apprentice up to date on where we are.

An apprenticeship is a great way to gain experience in the world of work as well as earning while you are learning. Being able to apply what I have learnt in my work has helped me to gain a better understanding of my job role and it has also resulted in being given a full-time position at Prospects.
I chose Furness College as my training provider because it had good reviews. I started off by studying on a Business Administration Level 3 course where I enjoyed my lessons and the tutors were great. It was through this course that I gained my apprenticeship with Prospects.
My job role includes different aspects of business admin as well as sales and marketing so no day is the same. There is room for development and I am looking into furthering my qualifications by undertaking some other courses through Furness College.
My employer is very supportive and the team that I work with are easy to get along with. My assessor has also been really supportive - she gave me great feedback which has helped me improve my work and boost my confidence.
